For quite a while after XI came out, the Kirk/McCoy comm on LiveJournal was actually *bigger* than the Kirk/Spock comm, the grand dame of Trek ships, which is quite an achievement. (I discovered this when compiling information for fan wikis.)

Also, right now, I believe it has the most fanworks on AO3 of any Trek pairing. It’s a big, productive fandom, just not a loud or flashy one. :D
